The work of John Scurry is born largely, in the artist’s own words, from an “impulse to depict” and as a “response to the seen,” which is perhaps why such a large portion of Scurry’s art is primarily paintings of interiors – the studio, an office, the bedroom – and still lifes. Offering a counterpoint to this private world of objects and arrangements, assemblies and figures, are the artist’s ethereal, almost mystical landscapes. Landscapes Seen/Imagined is a sophisticated, elegant and nuanced presentation of these landscapes of Scurry’s.
John Scurry is a Melbourne based painter and printmaker. His work is represented in several major collections such as the National Gallery of Victoria, the Art Gallery of New South Wales, Ballarat Fine Art Gallery and the Geelong Art Gallery, as well as in many private collections.
