Official opening with the artists: Sun Apr 25, 3 – 5pm

Hysterical swirls. Tendon like lines. Concentrations and constellations of circles. Repeated. Interlinked. Layered.

Drawing on shapes that echo across centuries, Marian Crawford’s intricately constructed books and collages are brought into dialogue with Andrew Totman’s visceral monotypes in an exhibition presenting each artist’s unique language of patterns. Totman’s rich, earthy palette of reds and ochres combines with Crawford’s playful greens, blues and yellows to create a complex visual conversation that evokes ideas of nature, biology and culture.

Andrew Totman is a master printmaker working predominantly in intaglio and monotype. His works are held in private and public collections in China, Italy, France, the USA, Japan and Norway and he has had over 40 solo exhibitions. In 2019, Totman was the Peebles Print Prize Highly Commended Award winner.

Marian Crawford is a visual artist interested in the book, fine art printmaking processes, and the printed image in contemporary culture. Her artworks are held in the collections of The British Library, National Gallery of Victoria, National Library of Australia, State Library of Queensland, State Library of Victoria, and many private collections. She is currently a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Fine Art at Monash University.
