SUMMARY:Rick Amor / Philip Davey
DESCRIPTION:DATES\nExhibition dates: Mar 11 – 29\, 2021\nOfficial opening: Sun Mar 14\, 3 pm – 5 pm\, 2021 \nRick Amor and Philip Davey both share a love of plain-air painting; both artists take a bold approach to composition\, and there is an obvious confidence in the technique of both artists. However\, a closer inspection of their broad bodies of work invites a far more complex appraisal of their decades of drawings\, paintings\, ceramics and sculptures. The brooding and the urban prevail in Amor’s work\, with pieces that are often characterised by a sense of tension and mystery; darkness and disquiet. Davey’s work on the other hand tends to be brighter; lighter; less introverted. \nIn a carefully curated exhibition\, Queenscliff Gallery brings together these two artists in a way that counterpoints their differences\, whilst also celebrating their skill\, finesse and friendship. \nFrankston born\, Melbourne based artist Rick Amor has worked in London\, New York and Barcelona. Over his forty-five year career as an artist\, Amor’s work has been shown in over sixty solo exhibitions and over one hundred group shows. In 2007 he was the recipient of the prestigious McClelland Award for Sculpture. His work is held by the National Gallery of Australia\, the National Portrait Gallery and numerous state gallery\, regional gallery and university collections throughout Australia. \nPhilip Davey is an English born painter\, ceramicist\, draughtsman and printmaker known largely for his “figurative narrative works\, often inspired by Australian classic texts”. His work is held by the British Museum print room\, Artbank\, Sydney\, the State Library of Victoria and several regional collections. He currently lives in Melbourne. \nRequest preview

SUMMARY:John Scurry
DESCRIPTION:(Image: Quarried\, 2019 John Scurry) \nLandscapes Seen/Imagined\nDATES\nExhibition dates: Apr 1 – 19\, 2021\nOfficial opening: Apr 4\, 3 pm – 5 pm\, 2021 \nThe work of John Scurry is born largely\, in the artist’s own words\, from an “impulse to depict” and as a “response to the seen\,” which is perhaps why such a large portion of Scurry’s art is primarily paintings of interiors – the studio\, an office\, the bedroom – and still lifes. Offering a counterpoint to this private world of objects and arrangements\, assemblies and figures\, are the artist’s ethereal\, almost mystical landscapes. Landscapes Seen/Imagined is a sophisticated\, elegant and nuanced presentation of these landscapes of Scurry’s. \nJohn Scurry is a Melbourne based painter and printmaker. His work is represented in several major collections such as the National Gallery of Victoria\, the Art Gallery of New South Wales\, Ballarat Fine Art Gallery and the Geelong Art Gallery\, as well as in many private collections. \nRequest preview
