Rick Amor and Philip Davey both share a love of plein air painting; both artists take a bold approach to composition, and there is an obvious confidence in the technique of both artists. However, a closer inspection of their broad bodies of work invites a far more complex appraisal of their decades of drawings, paintings, ceramics and sculptures. The brooding and the urban prevail in Amor’s work, with pieces that are often characterised by a sense of tension and mystery; darkness and disquiet. Davey’s work on the other hand tends to be brighter; lighter; less introverted.
