The delicate and ephemeral nature of the paper contributes to my on-going themes of the ever-changing landscape, and our ever-changing memories of it and its associations.
Each piece is delicately executed using layers of the tissue paper with hand stitching. Sometimes I crumple the paper after printing, to add to the feeling of fragility. The layered fine lines record minute details, reference life and death, the landscape around me, and the interconnectedness of all things.
Books have always been an important part of my practice, using sculptural book forms and more recently the traditional codex forms.
Books are intricate, delicate things, sometimes enclosed in boxes that require careful and gradual opening. The book, once displayed, still may not reveal all that has been stitched within. Something will remain hidden, be it a seemingly forgotten memory, or a treasured detail of an inner life.
