— Elmari Steyn

Elmari Steyn was born in Namibia, where her father was an accomplished oil painter.  She grew up exploring remote desert, sea and beach landscapes of the Namib Desert and Skeleton Coast, which continue to influence her work.  She completed her schooling in Namibia before studying at the University of Johannesburg. She later completed a Diploma in Fashion Design at the Joey Spiller Fashion Design School in Johannesburg.

Moving to Australia in 2012, Elmari continues her love of the arts as an active printmaker and jeweller, with her main focus being intaglio printmaking. Her works reflect her love for the environment and wilderness and especially the relationship of individuals within it.

Since 2014, Elmari has participated in multiple exhibitions, nationally and internationally, and won several Art Awards. From 2015-19, Elmari was based at her printing studio at the Tresillian Arts Centre in Nedlands, WA and teaching printmaking classes at the Tresillian and Midland Junction Arts Centres.

In recent years, Elmari has been most successful with print awards winning the 2022 Manjimup Cherry Harmony Festival Art Awards winner with River Fisherman II, the Morawa Art Awards (Shire of Morawa Acquisitive Award) 2022 with work Lakeside Arboretum I, Acquisitive Award winner of the ArtGeo Art Award 2021 with Drift Woods I, and winner of the 2021 City of Busselton Art Award.
