“The lure of a path, into the wild, off the beaten track, into space, from space. Enough explanation to converse with the viewer, but not too much so they have room to respond. My work is an exploration of space and light, simplifying the complex helps me ease my busy mind.”

Lana Daubermann is an Australian painter who lives near Merri Creek in Melbourne’s inner north. She is a resident artist at Pentridge Studios in Coburg and a recent finalist in the Glover Prize. She is known for her floral still lifes and landscapes painted in a bold, expressive style. Using oils primarily, she explores mark-making and its role in creating works that feel lively, fresh and true.

Recent works focus on connection to light and space in a time of quiet. “Currently I’m working with the ‘space and light between’. This includes an ongoing exploration of negative space in both my still life and landscape work, plus the ‘light between’ day and night…making the intangible, tangible. Mark-making and simplifying the complex are at the core of everything I do.”

QG look forward to Lana Daubermann exhibiting still life works in an upcoming group exhibition with Fiona O’Byrne and John Scurry from Sep 22 until Oct 24, 2022.
