Moli Carew is predominately an expressionist figurative artist. Distortion, exaggeration, layering, and transparent media play a significant role in her drawing, painting, and sculpture, as does the mask.

Moli’s background – her ‘backpack’ has been the predominant influence in her art; the turmoil the world has experienced in the two years of 2020/21 is undisputedly finding its way into the artist’s work.

Moli Carew has been a practising artist for 20 years. As a self-taught artist, Moli believes strongly that art is an intimate expression of self, something ‘you are born with and not necessarily learned at school’.

In 2011, Moli participated in a Paris inspiration trip with a group of artists. What followed was two more insightful visits in 2012/13.

Moli feels fortunate to have been mentored by artists Emmy Mavroidis and Aldo Billota of Nyora Studio Gallery. ‘This experience and these wonderful artists further influenced my practice’.

Daughter to parent survivors of the Holocaust survivors who not once mentioned a word of their past at home, Moli’s childhood recollection is that of a loving home, ‘a house as being solid on top but built on stilts, the foundations wobbly and uncertain.’
