Katherine Hattam

Born 1950, Melbourne, Victoria.

Katherine Hattam works in painting, drawing, collage, printmaking, and sculpture. Her practice frequently involves language, particularly the written word, as well as dialects of domesticity, family, and the self.

Hattam’s first exhibition was in 1978 at Melbourne’s Ewing and George Paton Gallery. Her work is held in major Australian public collections, including the National Gallery of Australia, and in private and corporate collections. She has won drawing prizes and been shortlisted for several prestigious art prizes. Hattam holds a Bachelor of Arts in Literature and Politics from the University of Melbourne (1974), a Master of Fine Art (Painting) from the Victorian College of the Arts (1992), and a PhD from Deakin University (2004).
