Marketa Kemp

Born 1973, Prague, Czech Republic.

Marketa Kemp is a Melbourne-based printmaker specialising in monotypes. Her work often takes a semi-abstract form remaining rooted in the traditions of printmaking.

Born and raised in the Czech Republic, Marketa experienced a simple yet meaningful childhood despite the constraints of communist rule. She found solace swimming in the untamed rivers and browsing pristine woodlands surrounding her and has since fostered a deep connection with nature.

Drawing inspiration from environments that profoundly impact her, Marketa evokes emotions through her art, deriving the essence and atmosphere of real locations and leaving viewers to personally interpret the imprints of her personal experiences.

Marketa remains enthralled by the hidden beauty of the Australian landscape, immersing herself regularly and feeling a part of the natural environment.

Marketa’s talent and artistic endeavours have garnered recognition over the years. She has been named a finalist in various art prizes, including the inaugural International Monoprint Prize at Megalo Print Studio in Canberra, the FPS Australian Monoprint Prize, and the Omnia Art Prize. Moreover, she has been a regular exhibitor at Tacit Galleries, participating in their annual Editions award for the past four years.

Queenscliff Gallery welcomes the opportunity to represent Marketa Kemp.
