Steve Lopes was born and lives in Sydney and has been a figurative painter for over twenty years.
Exhibiting nationally and overseas for over 20 years in Australia, London and Hong Kong, a 2022 Lopes survey marked a quarter-century of art making with a landmark exhibition, Encountered at S.H. ERVIN GALLERY and ORANGE REGIONAL GALLERY.
Steve Lopes’s work is held in the National Gallery of Australia, the Parliament House Collection and other public institutions and private collections including the Time Warner Collection in New York.
Very well known for his portraiture and recognised as a finalist in the Doug Moran Portrait Prize, Black Swan Prize the Percival Portrait Painting Prize, and selected for the Salon des Refusés exhibition several times, Steve also received the ultimate recognition for his landscape painting as the winner of the Gallipoli Art Prize in 2018.
Steve also works with master printer, Tom Goulder (Duck Print) producing etchings and was a finalist for Russell’s Top, Gallipoli in both the Geelong Gallery Acquisitive Print Award 2019 and the Peebles Print Prize 2019.
