Artist’s statement
Startled by the sudden piercing calls of gulls, the tallest of the trees saw them first. The ocean calm, slowly drifting closer in a cloud of light. The old tree seemed so much taller, even prouder, with remnants of the exquisite vine held safely high in his branches. The boat they barely recognise, now a deep red, its prow still slender but new tentative young buds growing out. The boat has found its heart of fire.
