Julianne Ross Allcorn

Born 1960, Rabaul, Papua New Guinea.

Julianne Ross Allcorn is an Australian artist whose practice is grounded in observation, memory and place. Born in Rabaul, PNG, she carries a deep connection to landscape that continues to shape her work across Australia and beyond. She works from her art journals, created during her travels, translating sketches, notes, flora and gathered impressions into resolved studio works.

Her practice moves across wood panels and delicate surfaces, including French tissue paper and vintage pianola scrolls. Through fine etching pencil, mixed media and watercolour, she builds intricate layers of detail that invite close looking and quiet reflection. Immersed in the landscape, she captures flora, fauna, insects and the evolving bush, expressing a deep respect for the natural world. Sometimes the works are inspired by her childhood of swimming over the unique waters, coral reefs and atolls of the islands of PNG. Each work reflects the respect for nature and an awareness of interwoven cultures, history and the environment.

With more than twenty years of experience as an artist and educator, Julianne also leads workshops that offer a rich and thoughtful experience: looking at landscape, still life, live models, the anatomy and streetscape.

Through art journaling, she guides participants to capture the immediacy of place, encouraging awareness, building a strong connection and personal storytelling through mark making and observation.
