Helen Kocis Edwards

Born 1962, Melbourne, Victoria.

Helen Kocis Edwards explores human/nature relationships through imagery reminiscent of story books and fairy tales within imagined worlds. The work seeks to disrupt the human/nature binary by interweaving and connecting figures, man made and natural elements within fanciful landscapes.

Kocis Edwards uses experimental monoprinting of plant species and cut out stencils from discarded plastic to integrate humans, flora, fauna and manufactured elements. The process layers the impressions of each item, creating a dialogue between the parts. Simple shapes of figures, buildings and animals contained in 2D and 3D prints and artist books allude to childhood and a sense of nostalgia. The work builds on the experience and learnings gained from an artist residency at Gate 44 Print Workshop in Milan in 2025.

The combination of real and imagined elements within physical and emotional landscapes poses the notion that this interconnectedness has reciprocal effects; physically, emotionally and environmentally.
