Artist’s statement

The storm passed! Wind-blown, tired and covered in flotsam and kelp, the cold current pushed the boat into a quiet cove. High on the rocks stood a stunted tree, branches broken and barely alive. The sapling next to him, he said was his daughter, strong and colourful, like her mother. She held the tired boat firmly while the two old trees discussed the absence of sunshine. Their murmurings were overheard by a large fish residing in the deep. Gliding gracefully to the surface, the fish said he is called the Wanderer, he knew where to find the sun and how to return the light. He had swum all the oceans known to man and fish. He would gladly show them the way, but oceans are wild and greedy, and they need to travel light and fast. The old tree then called upon the gulls to clear his head and lighten the boat.
