Judges David Hurlston, Senior Curator, Australian Art NGV and Lisa Sullivan Senior Curator Geelong Gallery had a challenging time selecting the 31 finalists for the Peebles Print Prize 2021 (PPP21) Finalists’ Exhibition. QG received an abundance of entries from around Australia, many artists submitting multiple artworks.
The judges searched for a group of works that would form an exciting finalists’ exhibition and one that would continue the PPP’s ambition to remain an aspiring national print prize for artists to enter. Technique, execution of concept, colour application and how the group of works would collaboratively formulate an exhibition were all factors taken into account.
One other highly impacting factor was QG’s small exhibition space. The level of work submitted truly left us wishing we had a larger space.
David Hurlston, Lisa Sullivan, Graeme Peebles and both QG Directors are thrilled to congratulate and announce that the following artists and their works will form the PPP21 Finalists’ Exhibition:
Susan Baran Alhambra Palace, Terence Barrett Covid-19 Mealtime compromise 3/10, Victoria Bilogan EVEolution V, Hannah Caprice The Warmest Welcome, Lana de Jager Eastern Grey Kangaroo, David Fairbairn T.J.K.No10, Sarah George Caring for Country, Bridget Hillebrand Lines of Site, Julie Mia Holmes Shelter in Place, Lizzie Horne Reasons for Living (blossom I), Bron Ives Swamp Antechinus, George Kennedy Desire Lines, Michele Kershaw Binding Bloom, Helen Kocis Edwards Skatergirl Bilby and The Winged Lion, Damon Kowarsky Xian, Steve Lopes Figure With Horse Icon, Marion Manifold, The Games Boys Play – Iraq (Pink), Stuart Meyer-Plath Pura Dalem Peliatan, Cat Poljski First Division, Paula Quintela Lady Bird, Geoffrey Ricardo A Brief History of Nonsense, Therese Shanley Driving with Mandrake, Melissa Smith Reaching into the Stillness, Ruth Stanton Waves 1, Elmari Steyn Wandering Boat House I, Kati Thamo The Garden Inside, Andrew Totman A Glowing Memory, Hilary Warren Gulaga, Cleo Wilkinson Then IV, Deborah Williams Parallel Self, Aliki Yiorkas The Task of Mourning.
