Amor

Born 1948, Frankston, Victoria

Born in Frankston, Victoria in 1948, Rick Amor completed a Certificate of Art at the Caulfield Institute of Art in 1965 and studied at the National Gallery School, Melbourne from 1966 to 1968.

He has been the recipient of several Australia Council studio residencies that have allowed him to work in London, New York and Barcelona.

Rick has held 80 solo exhibitions since first exhibiting at Joseph Brown Gallery in 1974 and has shown annually at Niagara Galleries (VIC) since 1983. Rick is also represented by Philip Bacon Galleries (QLD).

Rick Amor’s work borrows heavily from the pictorial traditions of Symbolism and Surrealism. The legacy of these art movements manifests within the poetic quality of Amor’s style. Amor’s handling of light and his alluring manipulation of depth of field in his paintings achieves a sustained sense of tension and mystery that insinuates a multiplicity of meanings. His works include psychologically potent symbolism and his landscapes, in particular, convey a disquieting atmosphere, with objects saturated by contrasting light and shadows.
