QG&W is located in Victoria on the Bellarine Peninsula’s coastal town of Queenscliff with a focus on printmaking and other works on paper.
QG&W proudly shows the work of over 70 Australian artists/printmakers. As well as operating the gallery space, QG&W also offers art and printmaking workshops and printmaking studio access.
QG&W exhibiting artist, Graeme Peebles, is Australia’s leading mezzotint printmaker. Graeme studied and lectured at RMIT and is a multi-award-winner in his field with his work collected privately and by institutions around the world. Being a purist, Graeme’s print method is traditional and in keeping with a process taught over past centuries. Graeme has over 40 years of printmaking knowledge and experience and is highly regarded amongst his peers.
Together, we have established a significant print prize that is representative of the highest level of printmaking in Australia, solely focused on the intaglio technique. The prize is the Peebles Print Prize (PPP).
The inaugural PPP17 was a huge success and proved the ongoing enthusiasm for Australian printmaking. The success of the inaugural event also secured the opportunity for us to continue administering the prize.
This year, preliminary selection will be conducted by Graeme Peebles with the QG&W directors. QG&W and Graeme Peebles are both thrilled to announce the judges for PPP19 will be master printer Bill Young and Geelong Gallery Director Jason Smith.
The PPP19 will once again align with the Geelong Gallery Acquisitive Print Award (GGAPA). QG&W is happy to continue their support with a residency for the GGAPA 2019 winner.
This strong collaboration with Geelong Gallery creates a strong message for Australian printmaking. Together QG&W and Geelong Gallery have purposely aligned the dates of these two prizes – something that is sure to enhance the exposure nation wide for both exhibitions.
Winner of the PPP 2019 receives a prize of: return economy airfares, accommodation, one week of art/print courses, full access with most materials included at Scuola Grafica in Venice, and cash. Valued to $6,000

Please contact us if you have any questions about the terms and conditions. All questions in regard to the prize will be posted here for everyone’s reference.
Q: Is lithography acceptable?
A: Lithography is not an intaglio technique but certainly if used with an intaglio technique the entry would qualify
Q: My work is represented elsewhere
A: It is possible that your gallery will understand if you request the few months exclusivity for the art piece entered. Your representing gallery’s mission is to enhance your career opportunities and represent you as best they can. QG&W are happy to add information about your representing gallery with the details of your work.
Q: Does the work have to be new work especially for the PPP19?
A: Entrants must have completed their entry in the last 24 months (from the deadline of entries – Jun 28, 2019) but the work does not have to be a new work specially made for the PPP19.
Q: Options for framing
A: QG&W are happy to organise framing to save transport costs for artists however work must be posted to QG&W immediately after finalists’ notification (Aug 2, 2019). Work will be professionally framed. Specifications and frame material will be provided upon request.
Q: Would an artist book comprising a number of prints be eligible
A: Yes, artists’ books are acceptable.
Q: If submitting an artist book, is the dimension measured by how it would be displayed or by the actual length of the paper?
A: Finished (book closed) size should fit the dimension limit.
Q: Though intaglio printmaking a collagraph print also involves relief printing – is this eligible?
A: Mixed mediums are acceptable so long as intaglio is present.
Q: I’m having trouble uploading an image, can I submit via email?
A: Yes! Please include all the information required and attach your image and send to firstname.lastname@example.org. We will manually enter your submission into the website and you will receive a receipt of entry when we do. Please call the gallery to pay for your entry or follow the link in the receipt and pay directly online.
Q: ‘Finalists works to be exhibited framed’ and a few lines down it states, ‘All works must be submitted unframed’. Is the entry to be framed or unframed?
A: The image is submitted unframed but if selected for the exhibition, the work must be framed
