A Great Week of Events in Queenscliff and Geelong

It's been a great week! Directors of Queenscliff Gallery (QG), Soula and Theo Mantalvanos, attended two exciting cultural events in Queenscliff and Geelong. It was the Geelong Gallery's 7th annual Geelong Contemporary soirée, where 170 art enthusiasts gathered to hear Director and CEO Jason Smith, Senior Curator Lisa Sullivan, and Assistant Curator Katarina Paseta discuss three contemporary artists' proposed works for acquisition into the Gallery's collection. Lon Retreat directors Rob Gemes and Claire Gemes (pictured) offered a luxurious stay to help raise funds for acquiring these new works, making it an exciting opportunity for art lovers to connect with the local art scene and contribute to its growth. Soula and Theo return to Geelong Gallery next week for a lead-up celebration for the much anticipated Clarice Beckett exhibition.

Q: What were some of the foundation ideas for this exhibition project? A: If I had to use one word, it would be ‘place’. And the relationship with it; what it means when you’re in it, how it impacts you when you’re away from it, what resonates after you’ve visited or lived in it. Perhaps it’s also respecting a place – I absolutely love Venice. But maybe also, I’m simply doing the artist thing; travelling, documenting, and communicating because that is a beautiful thing to do.
